About

Introduction Imagine walking in a giant park at an altitude of 4,000 meters - for two days! That?s how exhilarating the experience is on Gidara Bugyal Trek. Walking through the country?s remotest meadows is close to hiking in the Irish outdoors. The long and extraordinary walk on the ridge rewards you with the majestic views of Gangotri, Jogin, Srikanth, and Draupadi ki dadi on a clear day. The trail is secluded, attracting only a few hikers down this path. So, consider yourself lucky to hike in the pristine surroundings of the Garhwal mountains. Best Time to Trek The best time to trek to Gidara Bugyal is in June and September when the beauty of Gidara Bugyal is at its peak. The meadows are sprawling with fresh grass and tiny wildflowers. You may find a few patches of snow at the top. September is the best time to get a clear glimpse of the mountains as the sky is squeaky clean. The green hues transform to autumn colors of brown and orange. Difficulty Level Gidara Bugyal Trek is an easy-moderate trek. The trail has some steep sections with long walks through the meadows. It can be long and taxing for beginners. Also, the trek quickly gains altitude, exposing you to high-altitude mountain sickness. Hence, it is recommended for first-timers and newbies build strong physical endurance before the trek.
Bhangeli is a remote village in Uttarkashi. It is 190 km from Dehradun and takes about 7-8 hours to get there.
Trail: The trail begins from a remote village and passes through the shepherd?s trail, river streams, and waterfalls. Once we cross the tree line, we can see the giant Himalayas appearing in the scenery. Campsite: The campsite lies in the middle of a beautiful Rikoda meadow. Enjoy camping under the stars. Thrilling point: Lay your eyes on Gangotri groups and Srikanth peaks on the very first day.
Trail: Today, you will encounter two steep sections. The path gradually ascends to the Thirya River, followed by a steep section through Bhojpatra forests until the Dokrani campsite. Campsite: The lush meadows of Dokrani campsite will amaze you with 360 degrees panoramas encompassing Gangotri massif and Draupadi ka Danda.
Trail: We continue our journey in the sprawling meadows of Dokrani Bugyal. As we continue further, we can see Gangotri, Jogin, Draupadi ki Dandi, and Srikanth peaks. On the other side, we can notice Dokrani Bugyal that we left behind. The trail to Thalotya is laden with dandelions and wildflowers. Campsite: Witness the magical sunset from Thalotya - our campsite of the day. It lies in a narrow valley with s river stream alongside. The rhododendron bushes with blooming pink flowers surround the campsite.
Trail: It is a long and tiring day with gradual ascents and descents. Don?t worry, the hard work will be paid off. The scenery of lush green meadows looks similar to what you would experience in the mountains of Ireland. From the top, it is a gradual ascent towards Thirya campsite. Campsite: The campsite in Thirya resembles an English countryside village. The views of Gangotri peaks and pin rhododendrons adorn the scenery. One can hear the gurgling sound of the two water streams that feed the campsite. Milestone of the day: A walk along the Gidara Ridge will take your breath away. You can witness the revered peaks in full glory if the sky is clear. The peaks appear closer than the first day you saw them.
It is the final leg of the trek. We retrace our steps to Rikoda campsite and finally to Bhangeli. Stay overnight in a homestay.
We check out from the guest house and drive to Dehradun.
