Itinerary Description
Introduction
Ghepan ghat lake trek is a high-altitude glacier lake trek. You will find some rare hanging glaciers. Especially, the massive glacier hanging from the saddle ridge of the mountains surrounding the lake is just so rare. Indeed a sight to behold. The Ghepan lake is at an altitude of 4146 mts. The Ghepan ghat lake trek is a moderate trek. We recommend you have prior experience of high altitude treks.
Also, you will have to cover a stretch of 6-8 km every day. Furthermore, you will be experiencing and crossing very tricky patches like snow or scree. There might be a stream or river crossing too. But interestingly, it is not a much-explored trail yet, which makes it offbeat. You will also witness the icebergs floating around in the Galvanic blue water lake. This untouched trail would be a key to some of the best exposure to the Himalayas.
Best Time to Trek:
The best time to do the Ghepan lake trek is Summer (June -July) and monsoon (August- September). Even during the month of May, you will find a lot of snow on the trail which makes it difficult to reach the lake. You will also witness how the terrain and texture change as you climb higher. During the summer the temperatures are between 5-15 degrees which is quite pleasant. During the monsoon, the temperatures are between 0 to 15 degrees. The summer air is quite crisp and the monsoon air is a little moist. The meadows on the trail are just incredible after the snow melts.
Difficulty Level:
The Ghepan lake trek is a moderate-level trek. Starting from day 1 there will be a slight ascent. The trail is filled with big snow patches. We highly recommend you have prior experience in high altitude trek. Surly, this trek is treated as an offbeat trek. The barren rugged mountains which lead you to trails that are quite contrasting.
